Subject: Grandpa Peter has passed away suddenly

I have sad news for you family and friends. My dad, Peter Travis Cubberley, died 1-2-2008 in Cleveland. He had an irregular heartbeat as of late, and it looks like it was a heart attack that took him. He had been sick with a bad cold over New Years but was feeling better the day he died. He was found in the common room at his condo complex and had apparently collapsed. The paramedics could not revive him. He was 76 years old. He will be cremated 1-4-08 and my mother Martha will hold a celebration of my dad's life on Saturday 1-26-08 from 2pm-4pm at the Free Clinic in Cleveland were he continued to treat HIV/AIDS patients up until the day he died.

My Mom seems strong and has lots of friends and family around her. We are holding up well at my house. The kids will sure miss their Papa. We are thinking that Dad probably did not mind going out this way. He was doing well and still enjoying all the things he loved. If he had gotten sick and non-functional, he would have been miserable. The suddenness robs us of a chance to say goodbye, but it saved Dad any discomfort and dread. I know that he told me in recent years, as he aged, that he had no regrets, that he had a full and enjoyable life and that he was not afraid of dying. He also felt great about his life with my mother. He adored her. And though he was not the emotionally expressive type, he let me know plenty of times how lucky he felt to share his life with my mom and our family. Peter was not a religious man. So, I'm not sure what he is up to now. But no doubt he earned his way to better places that likely include wooded mountains and a seat outside a certain cottage by Tripp Lake at Camp Susquehannock!
