Introducing Our Interim Director

Dear Camp Susquehannock Families, Alumni, Staff, and Friends,
On behalf of the Board of Directors, we are pleased to share important news about the future of Camp Susquehannock.
As we move thoughtfully through this period of transition and into an exciting new chapter in our camp's history, our top priorities remain steady leadership, a strong and supportive staff, and an unwavering commitment to the safety, growth, and joy of every camper.
We are pleased to share that camp alumnus ('75–'79) Jim McDaniel will serve as Interim Director during this important transition. Jim brings more than 45 years of experience in independent school education and camping, including 11 years as a Head of School in Massachusetts. Over the course of his distinguished career, he has served in virtually every aspect of school and camp life — teaching, mentoring, recruiting and developing staff, fundraising, and most importantly, ensuring the safety and well-being of the young people under his care.
Jim's deep connection to Camp Susquehannock, combined with his seasoned leadership and heartfelt belief in our mission, make him uniquely suited to guide us during this transition. We are confident that under his leadership, our traditions will be honored while we continue building toward an even stronger future.
We are excited for you to hear directly from Jim below.
With gratitude and optimism,
Ben Lieb & Mac Morgan
Camp Susquehannock Board of Directors

Dear Camp Susquehannock Community,
Coming back to Camp is both humbling and deeply meaningful to me.
As a young counselor from 1975 to 1979, I had the privilege of caring for the boys of Peek and Mount Inn and learning lessons about leadership, responsibility, and character that shaped the course of my life. The mentors who guided me here had a profound influence on how I approached every opportunity and challenge throughout my 45-plus-year career in education and camping.
I often describe myself as a "gym rat" who grew up as a coach's kid. That upbringing instilled in me a belief in teamwork, preparation, accountability, and heart. Whether serving as a teacher, coach, administrator, or Head of School, my focus has always been on building strong communities where young people feel safe, supported, and inspired to grow.
Returning to Camp Susquehannock at this important moment in its history is truly a full-circle experience for me. I am excited to work alongside our talented returning staff and to get to know the campers and families who make this place so special.
During my time as Interim Director, we will never lose sight of why we are here: to serve our campers. Safety, growth, and fun will be the markers of our success. We will honor the traditions that define Susquehannock while working together to ensure a bright and sustainable future.
My wife Susan and I are thrilled to rejoin this community. We have three adult sons who grew up around schools and camps, and we have seen firsthand the lifelong impact that strong, values-based communities can have on young people.
Thank you for the warm welcome I have already received. I look forward to reconnecting with many of you and meeting others for the first time in the weeks and months ahead.
Onward and Upward,
Jim McDaniel
